A few years ago I was late to the game getting my kids’ Valentines for school. By the time I went to Target everything was grossly picked over and options were very limited. It was time to get creative!
I saw some Valentine’s themed applesauce pouches (my son is obsessed with applesauce pouches). I brought them home and worked to convince my kindergartener. I drafted up a card idea to print at home and he fell in love with it. It was so easy! It was also less expensive and more personal than the premade card valentines. I liked that it was something personal to my son but also a better option than cheap candy or tattoos.
Since then, I have been making DIY Valentine’s for my kids ranging from pencils to applesauce, and veggie straws to bracelets. In this post I will highlight four of my favorite tags and ideas to share with you!
Happy Valentine’s Day and enjoy spreading love and joy!

First up, the card that started it all.
You are Awesome Sauce!
To complete this Valentine you will need:
applesauce pouch
printer and card stock paper
scissors
hole punch
some string and/or ribbon

Sometime you can find holiday edition applesauce pouches in the Valentine aisle, but these are NOT necessary! Simply grab a variety pack or your kid’s favorite flavor.
Next, download and print the FREE printable below. Cut out and have your kid sign on the from line.
**It should be noted my son’s class did not have them write a “to” and simply put a Valentine in every students bag for ease. Therefore there is no “to” on the card.
Punch a hole in the top corner and thread some festive ribbon or string to secure it around the applesauce pouch. That is it, easy squeezy!

Second, this idea will be a hit with the boys.
Valentine, I PICK you!
To complete this Valentine you will need:
festive pencil
printer and card stock paper
scissors
hole punch or slide paper cutter
tape

There is no shortage of festive pencils for Valentine’s Day, but finding a unique and fitting card to go with them was more of a challenge. My fourth grade son found this idea hilarious! I found similar ideas on Pinterest and made up my own on Canva. Below is a template to customize your own.
Once you have the template colored and finalized how you like it, simply download print and cut. To make the hole for the pencil you can hole punch (depending one the size of card you made and style of hole punch you have) or you can use a slide cutter like I have linked above. This allows you to put the blade exactly where you need it to create a slit in the paper.
Have your kid address and sign the card before the pencil goes in for easier writing. Lastly, feed the pencil through and secure on the back with some tape. Now you have a funny, inexpensive, and useful Valentine for your kid to bring to school!

Next up is a versatile card that you can pair with anything!
To complete this Valentine you will need:
Valentine’s “gift” (candy, pop it, bubbles, bracelets, etc.)
printer and card stock paper
scissors
tape

Full disclosure this card was made up a couple years ago and I have no photo of what my daughter included with it. She requested a Valentine with rainbows, so some brainstorming and Pinterest searching, along with some Canva work we came up with a few variations. I loved how these turned out so much that I wanted to include, them even though it isn’t a full package idea.
Some “gifts” that I think would pair well could be rainbow colored fidgets, putty, glow glasses, or a cool rainbow pen!

Lastly, a card to highlight a special treat for a teacher so sweet!
Not to be missed, I like to put together a special Valentine for our kids’ teachers that is different than the classroom ones.
Check out the supply list for some ideas of a simple teacher gift.
To complete this Valentine you will need:
gift bag
gift card of your choice
candy
fussy socks
printer and card stock paper
scissors
hole punch
festive string or yarn
